Contains the following types of materials: photographs and photographs of pencil sketches. Covers the following war: World War II (WWII). General description of the collection: Eugene C. Jacobs photograph collection is comprised primarily of photographic copies of pencil sketches he did as a prisoner of war at Cabanatuan, Philippine Islands. They show many aspects of prisoner of war (POW) life as a prisoner of the Japanese during WWII. The artwork is really quite good, and there are several portraits which he did of fellow POWs. In addition there are a few sketches of nonprison related subjects in the Philippines and some actual photographs of prisoners and the camp at Mukden, Manchuria in 1945, where he was moved when the war was winding down.

Colonel (COL) Eugene C. Jacobs, MD, graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1929. He joined the Army Medical Corps in 1934 and served as the personal physician to General MacArthur from October 1941 to December 1941. He was a prisoner of war (POW) of the Japanese from 20 July 1942 to 20 August 1945, serving as the Chief, Medical Service, Japanese Prisoner of War (POW) Camp No.1 Hospital, Cabanatuan from 1942 to1944. He was transferred to prison camps in Moji and Fukuoka, Japa...
